Podcast No. 53

Welcome to Radiant Women, I am the lawyer Leydi Campos who transmits live from Canada our topic today is called "brave or addicted to adrenaline" thanks to all who are with us at this time and also to those who later will listen to this program our biblical quote is Joshua 1:6, 7 and 9 and the word of God says: v. 6 Strive and be brave ... v.7 Only be strong and of good courage, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law which Moses my servant commanded thee...v. 9 Behold, I command thee to be strong and of good courage, fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD thy God shall be with you wherever you go.

LET US PRAY

In the context of these texts, we have to go back to Deuteronomy 31 verse 6 written by Moses ;, which says be strong and of good courage do not fear nor be afraid of them for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you he will not leave you nor forsake you, and verse 8 says "and the LORD goes before you, he will be with you, he will not leave you nor forsake you do not be afraid nor be dismayed", here we see that the fortitude and bravery of Israel's warriors would come from their confidence that their God was with them and would not leave them. This is a reminder to all leaders and that it is also a principle for faith and trust that is why, in Joshua who was one of the leaders in the old testament,3 times he says "try hard and be brave" he says it to the people 3 times, he should be reminding the people of it, that they would strive and be courageous remembering that courage comes from God since God was with them and that would cause them to gain the victory.

Let's start to show the difference between being addicted to adrenaline and another thing is to be brave, we explain the first thing:

Adrenaline addicts.- Many people say: I am not addicted to adrenaline and practice extreme sports, this is what generates them more adrenaline, a psychologist expert in addictions says, it is an addiction to practice this kind of risks and challenges, since adrenaline releases certain substances, like all addiction that is dopamine and dopamine is closely related in all addictions and with the welfare.

So every time I have a situation of danger or running or emergency, let's say that the amygdala tells the hypothalamus, you have to secrete through the adrenal glands adrenaline and this is activated and adrenaline makes my body much stronger, resistant, agile, the pupil dilates, I have better vision, I have better hearing. At that moment that the adrenaline is in my body, then you feel a euphoria, like a party in your body and how long does it last? it lasts a few minutes, and then your body enters into this feeling of well-being, of happiness and that is why it is so addictive, as if you were entering into a party, after the adrenaline has finished being discharged.

For example, people who jump into the void, the higher they jump, the more adrenaline explosion, as if they were about to die, imagine how their body is on high alert, they are in a party at that moment, they feel all this explosion of adrenaline and then it is a feeling of well-being, and in this process, they say: the only way I can feel this well-being and this feeling of joy, of energy only comes from this activity. People who throw themselves from heights, with adrenaline they can do it, why? because all your muscles are full of blood and oxygen and you have much more strength and resistance so for those seconds, you will be able to support maybe even throw yourself from more height or support triple your weight if you carry extremely heavy objects, because you are trying to protect your body, this sport is called Weightlifting, it is an Olympic sport also known as weightlifting.

You do not say, you cannot carry that with your body, you say I have to take all the blood and all the oxygen to my muscles to lift and get out, for example, of the trunk where I am trapped or where my son, my daughter is trapped, that is where it is activated, here the question is that, when there is an addiction to adrenaline, we are talking about a much stronger and much more intense blood flow if this is prolonged you are going to have problems at some point in the heart. Of course, as every addiction has a danger, it is when you fall into this addiction, you have to seek professional treatment, because it is a situation that has to do with neurotransmitters, biology, emotions and behaviors. Another case of people who become addicted to adrenaline without knowing it are children who are abused since they are small, all kinds of abuses, because of my work in criminology, I have noticed that these children by living in survival mode their body gets used to live with high levels of adrenaline, because of their state of defenselessness, if they are not treated in time, in their adulthood they can end up delinquent, In their adulthood they can end up committing crimes, since nothing scares them anymore, and they can get into organized crime, even as drug dealers and increase the degree of audacity in their actions, which is only stopped with the mercy of God, with their salvation, and a professional treatment, otherwise they end up in a jail or in a cemetery. A last case are the women who live with violence, subdued by the fear that prevents them from acting and running for their lives and those of their children, and the young people who with drugs get the adrenaline that gives them a temporary piece of happiness and peace every day, waiting for time to take its toll on their body. These people think that this life is normal since they know no other, they do not know that they were created and designed to live in a peace that surpasses all understanding, in all these examples they believe they are brave, and their actions have nothing to do with courage, since courage is a gift from God, which serves to do good and glorifies Him.

Let's now talk about courage, or being brave, a talent given by God to glorify Him, forget about the adrenaline addiction for a while and concentrate on the following:

Joshua chapter one reminds us that the nation of Israel at this time, spent 40 years in the wilderness, because they disobeyed God and after 40 years, all the adults died and now Joshua and Caleb and the others were ready to enter the Promised Land and God said in Joshua chapter one, "My servant Moses is dead, now therefore arise and go over this Jordan, you and all this people into the land which I give to the children of Israel, I have delivered you as I said unto Moses... then it says no man shall be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life as I was with Moses I will be with thee I will not leave thee nor forsake thee I will forsake thee: be strong and of a good courage, it says 3 times, be strong and of a good courage, for thou shalt divide unto this people for an inheritance the land which I sware unto their fathers to give unto them only be strong and of a good courage.

Listen well, when God tells you something 2 or 3 times in a row you better listen and the reason why He said," be strong and be very courageous" was because 40 years earlier God's people, had said, "let us return to Egypt" which was a foolish request.they wanted to overcome the fear of the unknown in their strength and wanted to turn back. One of the most important lessons we learn in the Christian life is this, to learn to meditate, that is to learn to relate to the Lord in a personal way in our walk with him, to listen to him, to apply what he tells us to be part of our behavior, style and way of living, so 3 times he says be strong and courageous.

What is meditation: it is to focus our heart on God and leave everything else aside. When we meditate on God, we cannot be thinking about something else, it is focusing on God and leaving everything else aside, it is listening, rather than talking, so meditating is focusing on something you have heard and applying it to your life. So in this message, we will focus on one verse look I command you to be strong and courageous, do not fear or faint.

It allows us to face danger, opposition or life's challenges with boldness, calmness and firmness. What is courage? the quality of mind and spirit that allows us to face danger, opposition or life's challenges with boldness, bravery, calmness and firmness. "strive and be courageous" maybe someone will say, I don't feel strived and courageous. That's why we talk about it, it's about focusing our mind, our heart, our spirit to strive and be brave.

At various times in life, we all face all kinds of challenges, so we strive and be brave, bold, because we obey God and trust in him. God is willing to give us this virtue, if we listen to him attentively, so with that in mind let's look at this whole idea of courage:

1.- it is a command: first he gives a command, be strong and courageous because 40 years before their fathers said we cannot do this and they died in the wilderness and Joshua reminds them, because they would not want the same thing to happen to them as happened to their fathers "be strong and courageous" God repeats 3 times in those few verses. What does the repetition or command imply? it implies the nature of the test, they will face something that will challenge them, so he tells Joshua to prepare himself, that is, to make the decision to put his faith in God.

Often, we all face situations and circumstances in life in which if we are not grounded in God's word, our natural reaction will be fear, we will say, "My God, what am I going to do? My God what am I going to do? what caused this and we begin to ask questions. Remember the commandment in those moments: "be strong and courageous today" so when we say very courageous, let's think about these 2 qualities: a) courage is when there is absence of fear, be strong and courageous is determination, that is resolution, energy, firmness, endurance, that is to be strong, then people say: you know what I don't know if I can face this so I won't do it.
Of course you can, what he said to Joshua was to the whole nation, "be strong and very courageous" do not be afraid, focus your mind and heart on God in what he is willing to do in our life I think that many times, people face circumstances in life in which, if only they would have had that verse "be strong and courageous, do not be afraid", they would have grown in faith. Focus on God, but often situations arise and our first reaction is fear and we forget what the Lord said "be strong and of good courage", in other words, I don't put my mind on God to face this with me, and I also forget that God will be with me wherever I go.
If we started every day with that verse things would change, our attitude, disposition and actions would change.
